Most of the world got Purple Rain on black vinyl. Japan got it in purple.
This is the 1984 Warner-Pioneer first pressing, cut and pressed in Japan for the domestic market and issued on translucent purple wax — a colourway the US and European originals never received. It arrives with the full Japanese-market insert: liner essays, a Prince discography, and complete Japanese lyric translations printed for listeners on this side of the Pacific. The die-cut "eyes and lips" inner sleeve is present.
It's the pressing collectors chase for a reason. Cut at Toshiba-EMI's Gotenba plant, it carries the warmth and separation that made Japanese pressings of this era their own quiet legend — and on purple vinyl, it simply looks like nothing else on the shelf.
Edition & Pressing · Catalogue: Warner-Pioneer P-13021 (Japan, 1984) · Translucent purple vinyl — Japan-only first pressing · Pressed at Toshiba-EMI, Gotenba · Matrix: P-13021-1 / P-13021-2
Condition (Goldmine standard, graded separately) · Sleeve: VG+ — glossy, clean, no significant wear · Media: VG+ — plays through cleanly, only faint surface noise between tracks · Included: album, purple vinyl, Japanese liner/translation insert, die-cut inner sleeve · Not included: obi-strip and poster (honestly disclosed — this copy is without both)
What you see and read is what ships. Flaws, where present, are photographed up close.
Cleaning & Care
Every record in this shop is individually cleaned on our ultrasonic cleaning system before it is listed — a deep bath process that lifts dust and residue from the groove itself, beyond what a conventional brush reaches. Each disc is then handled with lint-free wipes.
Sleeve and media are graded separately (Goldmine standard), with honest disclosure of any flaws. What you see and read is what ships.
Shipping
All items ship from Tokyo, Japan via EMS with full tracking and insurance. Estimated delivery is 5–8 business days to Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and 11–14 business days to the United States after dispatch. Every item is carefully packed to protect all volumes in transit.
About Shipping
I only ever charge the actual, official postage — never a markup. Shipping is based on Japan Post's official EMS rate table. Please see the rate for your region here:
https://www.post.japanpost.jp/send/oversea/charge/list-ems/all.html
If you are located in a region with special zone rates (for example, Cyprus or other outlying areas), the listed shipping may differ slightly. In that case, please message me before purchasing and I will correct it to the exact official rate.
Note for customers in the United States
Please note: under current U.S. import rules, sellers are now required to pre-pay customs duties before shipping (via an approved app called "Zonos"). This requirement is unique to the United States. In most other countries, import duties are paid by the buyer on delivery — but for U.S. orders, I must pay these duties up front on your behalf. For this reason, the cost of U.S. customs duties will be added to the item price. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your understanding.
Please feel free to message me with any questions before purchasing.
